In Conversation with Sophie Graham of TAG Undies
I had the chance to interview the creator and designer of TAG undies (and dear friend of DJ), Sophie Graham, to pick her brain about all things fashion and see what makes her both talented and gifted.
Short Intro of who you are!
I’m Sophie Graham! I live in Portland right now with my best friends, boyfriend and dog, and life is so fun. By day, I’m doing whatever part-time job I haven’t quit yet. By night? I make custom bedazzled underwear.

What inspired you to create TAG undies? Transitioning your passion of sewing into a business?
Ihave a clinical addiction to trim, ruffles, and bedazzles. It took me a while to figure out, but I’ve been wanting to make undies for a long time. All of my school projects were an attempt to get as close as possible to lingerie without the school getting mad at me.
As far as creating a business goes, it was a little scary to take something I love so much and use it to make money, but it’s been so fun so far and I have the best group of talented, creative friends who make me so excited to keep making stuff. And when they need any sort of creative help or want some cute undies, I’m right there to return the favor.

What media do you look for inspiration?
My Pinterest is full of vintage burlesque costumes. Also, anything Addison Rae does is very important to me.
If you had to raid anyones closet who would it be and why?
It’s gotta be Fran Fine. The Nanny in general was huge for me, but the outfits should be studied in schools. I think if I had that many skirt suits I would probably be way more business savvy.
Best advice you’ve received and any advice you have for inspiring designers?
Fill your purse with 50-60 loose napkins just in case inspiration strikes!

Where did the name “TAG” come from?
When I was in elementary school I was in a “Talented and Gifted” club. I was admitted for my poetry talents which should be an indicator of how fake this club was. We called ourselves TAG kids and it was the closest to celebrity I’ve ever felt. I’ve always been a huge attention whore and I’m a big fan of giving yourself awards. When I put on cute underwear, I’m stomping around town all day with the same energy I had back in my TAG days.
Anything exciting we can expect for the future?
Hopefully a lot more range! I’d love to have wayyyy more styles, bras, garters, bustles, tops, etc. Oh, also a website.
